Queenstown, in north west Tasmania lost it's last bank, Bendigo Bank, which closed on 30th September 2025.
Barely a week later on 8th October, the town's Post Office was posting messages on local social media pages asking for deposits. The post office's 'Bank@Post' service is not able to handle the demand for cash withdrawals.
“Please deposit cash with us in the morning if you can. This helps us have enough cash for withdrawals throughout the day," reads one post.
Another post from the post office says: “We need your cash please, we are nearly out of $50 notes” reports News.com.au.
Queenstown is not alone. Towns and suburbs around Australia are running out of cash as banks desert local communities.
Towns running out of legal tender is a serious problem and impacts consumers and businesses trying to do their business and keep the local economy running.
This will happen more and more as banks wipe their hands of any responsibility for supporting communities and local businesses.
Here I am talking about the risks of a cashless society to the Daily Mail.
PLEASE help us get the word out and stop the creeping cashless society the banks are trying to impose on Australia.
Please share our petition. Government is considering a cash mandate now. Banks must be forced to ensure we can access cash in our local communities:

Our Cash Welcome campaign provides a voice for all of us who trust and rely on cash.
I get donations from people and businesses to my Cash Welcome gofundme account to help keep this backlash against their cashless agenda alive.
