We are THE RESISTANCE

October 8, 2025

Cash withdrawals are up and the amount of cash on issue is booming.

The total number of cash withdrawals made in Australia rose in August 2025 to 37.2 million.

This total number does NOT include withdrawals made at Australia Post 'Bank@Post' outlets or any of the other ways Australians get cash, so it's an underestimate.

Despite bank branch and ATM closures, increasing restrictions on EFTPOS cash-outs plus more questioning of account holders who want to withdraw cash by bank staff, the numbers speak for themselves..

Australians are resisting the big bank cashless agenda.

The number of ATM cash withdrawals rose in August to almost 28.5 million from 28.2 million in July, reported the Reserve Bank. The number of EFTPOS cash-outs also rose in August to 7.2 million from 7.1 million in July.

The continuing demand for cash is reflected in the sheer mountain of Australian cash now circulating in the community. Last week, the RBA issued $448 million of new banknotes to take the total value of cash notes circulating in Australia to $105.351 billion. That's more than $3,818 worth of cash for every single person in Australia. This is the first time the total value of Australian cash banknotes on issue has exceeded $105 billion.

Banks need to stop claiming that Australians don't want to use cash. The RBA and financial regulators needs to ensure cash remains legal tender accepted throughout Australia.
